The Beacon at El Diablo

Every year

They gather

They oil and grease and repair

So your light may shine

May shine from here to there

So that all may remember

A woeful day in December

At its top does the devil rest

Does he take in what he can see best

Was he in the air that day

While families in Honolulu prayed

Young boys saw from afar

The worst to come

Exploding stars

Shivers and wonder

All torn asunder

I wonder now does your light

Help souls darkened by night

Does it reach from your distant shore

To that harbor which the bombs tore

Once a year you shine so bright

Once a year you grace the night

Once a year

Within our dreams

A brief moment

Of peace

It seems.
