complications

I must confess

It was under duress

This morning I got out of bed

I had slept but little

The warm glow of dawn

Was more of a cruel hand

Shaking me awake

To arise to another day

Of the chores that have been mine

For many years now.

But awoke I did,

and Discovered

that people awaited

The day was indeed glorious

Now as I sit with skin

Slightly dampened

From the heat of day

Raise ambrosia to my lips and say

“Indeed life is glorious and good,

and I must give thanks, not only to others,

but to myself,

For there is no accomplishment without trial,

No love without sacrifice,

And Sorrow and Joy

are kindred companions.”
