umbrella

Love

Like a tiny umbrella

Did not protect her

From all the rain

But gave her a moment’s peace

When she reminded herself

It was there

Even on the sunny days

The harshest of rays

Did not singe her

And she marched her umbrella

Through town

Singing its praises

She found some joy

In learning she could shelter others

With her umbrella

And while they might

Huddle underneath

The world still

Did not seem so bad.

Certain days her umbrella

Went with her to the store

And brought a smile

To the faces there.

She even took her umbrella to work

And everyone glowed

In its vibrancy.

Some days she forgot her umbrella

Altogether

And of course these were the days

It rained hardest.
