river fall

That one autumn

We knew it all

And all was new

We cast away

What was supposed to be

And instead did what we should

Skipped out on the

Last of the pretty days

To explore waterfalls

Along the river

Let the density of the trees

Enfold us like babes

Shouted into the sky

To see if we could hit the sun

Gathered the leaves

And made giant beds

Facing canopies

Rimmed with sky

Eating the last of the summer berries

That were frozen in the fridge

Showed baby birds the way home

And found our way

Slowly together
